Papers of Michael Noonan. 1891-1997.

The papers comprise Michael Noonan's literary output as a scriptwriter for radio, television and film and as a novelist and biographer from the 1940s until the publication of his autobiography in 1995. The literary papers include drafts, plot outlines, film treatments, notebooks, research materials and business correspondence. The collection also includes family and general correspondence, personal documents, legal papers and photographs. Major correspondents include Bill and Ann Moloney, Harvey Unna (agent), Kurt Hellmer (agent), Nadine Hopkins, Catherine Ingall, Chips Rafferty, Harry Rosengrave and Ted Willis.

Michael Noonan is a New Zealand-born Australian playwright and novelist who lived in London for 20 years prior to 1978. He is the author of numerous screenplays and 16 novels for adults and children. After discharge from active service in New Guinea during World War II, he studied at the University of Sydney before he began his literary career by writing radio plays. Born in Christchurch, New Zealand, Bill Moloney settled in Australia in the 1930's, became a newspaper reporter, public relations officer, columnist, then for ten years wrote the script for Movietone News. From 1946-50, he wrote 3000 radio serials including the "I Love a Mystery" series, "Meet Mr. Mystery" and "Officer Crosby" episodes. After moving to Cairns, he managed Far Northern Theatres where he was also involved with the Good Neighbour Council. From the description of Papers [...
